Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship for One-Semester and One-Academic-Year Chinese Language Study (2023)

For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has set the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.

 

I. ELIGIBILITY

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;

c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;

d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;

e) Between the ages of 16 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2023). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers should not be over 45.

 

II. PROGRAMS AND QUALIFICATIONS

a) Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program

The program commences either in September 2023 or March 2024, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible. Applicants for international Chinese language education, Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, or Chinese philosophy programs shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

b) Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Program

The program commences in September 2023, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of eleven months. International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible. Applicants of international Chinese language education programs shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required. Applicants for Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, or Chinese philosophy programs shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Applicants for Chinese language study programs shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3), and priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

 

III. SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE AND CRITERIA

The scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

IV. APPLICATION PROCEDURES&APPLICATION DEADLINES

a) Online registration will be available from 1 March, 2023. Please submit application on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website (http://cis.chinese.cn) and Wuhan University online application website (http://admission.whu.edu.cn).

b) Application deadlines (Beijing time):

lFor programs commencing in September 2023, applicants must complete their applications by 25 April, 2023.

lFor programs commencing in March 2024, applicants must complete their applications by 5 November, 2023.

 

V. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

A. For all applicants:

a) A scanned copy of passport biographical page;

b) A scanned copy of HSK and HSKK certificates (within the two-year validity);

c) A reference letter by the head of recommending institutions.

B. In-service Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment and a reference letter from the employer.

C. Applicants under 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

 

VI. ASSESSMENT AND ADMISSION

Wuhan University will review application documents and organize interviews for applicants. CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. The results will be published about three months before the program starts.

 

VII. POLICIES REGARDING IN-SERVICE CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS AND CHINESE BRIDGE WINNERS

a) In-Service Chinese Language Teachers

In-service Chinese language teachers may be exempted from HSK/HSKK certificates if they provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.

b) Chinese Bridge Winners

Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions may submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to Wuhan University directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.
