Q&As Related to the Postponement of the Spring Semester of 2020 (For International Students)

Q&As about New Students

 

1.QWhen can the new students of Spring semester come to campus to register?

A: We are still discussing about it according to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak. We will announce it at the website (http://admission.whu.edu.cn/en/?c=index)after we confirm and send an email to every new student by the registered email address.

 

2. Q: What should I do if I plan to give up this 2020 spring semester admission?

A: Please send an confirmation to admissions@whu.edu.cn and let us know your name and application number.

 

3. Q: I got the admission of 2020 Spring. What should I do if I plan to come at 2020 Fall semester?

APlease send an confirmation to admissions@whu.edu.cn before June 1 and let us know your name, address and contact information. We will provide a new admission package and mail it to you. You do not need to pay for this new application.

 

4.Q:I am planning to apply CSC Scholarships/Confucius Institute Scholarships/MOFCOM Scholarships. Is there any change about the application process and deadline?

A: There is no change yet. Please follow the notice on our websitehttp://admission.whu.edu.cn/en/?c=index

 

5. Q: I am planning to apply the spring camp/summer camp at Wuhan University. Is the admission process on schedule?

A: Because of the epidemic of Wuhan and campus, all the spring camps have been canceled or postponed. We do not issue any student admissions to the individuals at the moment. Please contact the camp organizer to confirm and get latest information.

Q&As about Teaching and Student Status during School Postponement

 

1.      Q: When can we know the time of school re-opening for this semester?

A: Considering the development and updates of epidemic prevention and control, the university will release notice about official start of semester and instructions on students’ registration in a timely manner.

 

2.      Q: When am I supposed to register for this semester?

A: The registration for spring semester of 2020 will proceed in two steps:

Step 1: Online registration on Feb 13th and 14th. Students register with SIE by sending your student ID, Passport name, passport number by email to sie_jxb@whu.edu.cn. Step 2: Students return to school for registration in accordance with the time and procedure of future notice.

Students can join your class groups (on QQ or WeChat) to know your teachers’ online teaching platform, or you can enter your virtual classroom (visit www.mooc.whu.edu.cn or http://course2020.whu.edu.cn from a PC or enter XUEXITONG app on a smart phone ) to check your schedule and join the class so that you can be prepared for online teaching starting from Feb. 17.

 

3.      Q: How to apply for changing major/grade/school or suspension/cancellation/resume of study?

A: International students can send email to sie_jxb@whu.edu.cn to apply for the above changes of student status. SIE staff will guide the process through email, coordinate will other departments or schools if necessary, and reply also by email to confirm on completion of the process.

The departure procedure or payment or return of payment involved because of the above issues can wait until the official start of semester, when the student or an authorized person can do it in the office.

 

4.      Q: During the postponement, how to do the retakes for undergraduate students who have ended study and left the university if still need to come back for retaking a few credits?

A: Students please contact your school (department) or SIE to join the online study first.

 

5.      QDuring the postponement, how can we get a transcript (in Chinese and/or English), study certificate or provisional certificate?

A: transcripts or certificates cannot be done generally speaking. It is recommended that students can wait after the official start of semester.

6.      Q: Why teaching online? Is it mandatory for international students to study online?

A: To reduce the impact of epidemic on students’ study, according to the requirements of ensuring teaching progress, teaching quality and “no suspension of teaching and studying” in “the Guidance on Online Teaching Organization and Management of Ordinary Colleges and Universities” of the Ministry of Education, Wuhan University decided to start online teaching on time from February 17 (when the semester was scheduled to start) and fully implement the course timetable of this semester.

International students are expected to join the online teaching and study.

 

7.      Q: What is the requirement on online study?

A: International students are supposed to follow the Notice about Registration and Teaching Arrangements during Postponement of 2020 Spring Semester http://sie.whu.edu.cn/detail-1127.html, be self-disciplined, be punctual for class, and make full use the teaching and research resources online provided by teachers or supervisors, actively communicate with teachers or supervisors and finish all assignments or tasks on time, be prepared for course assessments or exams. Students need to successfully complete course assessments in order to obtain the credits.

The university are dedicated to support students’ online study. Electronic book resources are available (https://www.whu.edu.cn/info/1118/14007.html) with the support of university library and the textbook center. All teachers will provide you with textbooks and teaching materials online. Students can share your study materials and information in your class groups. Students who do have difficulty to attend online classes need to explain to your teachers and they will help you with your study.

8.      Q: Is the online teaching sufficiently fluent? Can it be re-played?

A: The University supports teachers to use a variety of online platforms so to avoid platform failure or internet crash.

Some online teaching can be re-played depending on teacher’s choice of platform and method. Students are allowed to study flexibly under teacher’s guidance.

 

9.      Q: Will undergraduate course selection and cancellation carry on as planned last semester?

A: students can enter all virtual classrooms online without enlisting in the course. With teacher’s permission, students can join the course group (QQ or WeChat), too. All course selection can be done online in the groups before March 2nd.

10.  Q: Will internships or practical courses different due to the current situation? What if some practical courses are not suitable for online teaching

A: Due to the epidemic, all personal or group outdoor social practices, internship, experiments and trainings are temporarily paused. All schools or departments responsible will arrange accordingly and notify students.

 

11.  Q: How to register for HSK exam? Will the university lower requirements on HSK because of the epidemic?

A: After the official start of semester, our university will arrange for HSK tests. Students can log on to the website (http://www.chinesetest.cn/index.do) for most updated information of tests. If HSK tests are available at your city recently, you can consider taking the test.

To maintain the quality of education, we expect the requirements on HSK for 2020 graduates will not be lowered. Requirements on HSK scholarship students will be decided by the Confucius Institute.

Students can search in WeChat official account “HKGJ-CTI” (汉考国际CTI) for free online HSK Standard Courses, HSK textbooks and mock tests (the three web links above respectively).

 

12.  Q: Will my graduation be effected by the postponement?

AWuhan University attach much importance to the support and guides on graduation dissertations and graduation thesis for 2020 graduates. It is required that all schools should enhance advising of graduation dissertations and thesis. International students are supposed to keep in contact with your supervisor with good use of virtual classrooms and remote communications.

Once the semester starts officially, schools (departments) should follow the graduation thesis progress, with consideration of disciplinary characteristic, ensure the quality of graduation thesis and try not to postpone students’ graduation.

If students fail in some credits, then retakes are necessary in order to get all credits required to graduate.
