Introduction to the 2024 Summer Program of the School of International Education, Wuhan University

I. About Wuhan University

Wuhan University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education of China, and a key university under China's "985 Project", "211 Project", and "Double First-class Initiative". Wuhan University has a complete range of disciplines, featuring distinct, international-oriented and multidisciplinary studies. To help foreign learners improve their Chinese proficiency and better understand China, international summer programs of Wuhan University have been available since 2004. Over the past 20 years, the summer programs have offered over 100 courses to students from more than 30 higher education institutions worldwide.


II. About the Program

The program consists of four main modules:


Chinese Language, including Chinese language courses of different levels such as integrated Chinese, listening and speaking, reading and writing, travel, business, ancient Chinese language, modern Chinese language, newspaper reading, and HSK guidance, etc.


Lectures on Culture, including courses on Chinese history, China's geography, Chinese mythology and legends, Chinese poetry, traditional Chinese painting, traditional Chinese architecture, Chinese characters and culture, traditional Chinese thought, Buddhism and Taoism, Chu culture, tea culture, Chinese food and culture, Chinese opera, Chinese folk music, Chinese festivals, Chinese folklore, and contemporary Chinese economy and law, etc.


Cultural Experience, including hands-on experience and studies in calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, Chinese cooking, Tai Chi, martial arts, paper cutting, Chinese knots, tea art, Chinese folk music, shadow puppetry, lantern making, and ethnic dance, etc.


Cultural Tours, including visits to places such as Wanlin Art Museum, History Museum of Wuhan University, Hubei Provincial Museum, Hubei Museum of Art, Memorial Museum of 1911 Revolution, high-tech enterprises in the Optics Valley, Qingchuan Pavilion, Yellow Crane Tower, East Lake Scenic Area, Tanhualin, and Huanghu Art Village, etc.

(II) Time and Mode


1. Duration of the Program: June 30, 2024 - July 27, 2024.


2. Teaching mode: Mainly face-to-face instruction


(III) Number of Students to be Enrolled


Each class will consist of 10 to 20 students.


(IV) Fees


Transferred students: CNY 1,300 per person per week (including accommodation costs, tuition, and fees of basic teaching materials).


Fees for 4 weeks: CNY 5,000 per person (including accommodation costs, tuition, and fees of basic teaching materials).




III. Application Requirements

1. The applicants should be foreign citizens.


2. Those under 18 years old must obtain the school's consent and acquire the relevant documents such as the notarized guardianship certificate.


IV. Application Materials and Procedures

1. The applicants should submit their passports online. Those under 18 years old also need to submit the notarized guardianship certificates and other relevant documents.


2. The applicants should log in to Wuhan University's application platform (http://fses-admin.whu.edu.cn) to complete registration, choose "Self-funded Short-term Program" for the program type, select "Chinese Language Learner" for the student type, and choose "Chinese Language" for the major.
