Ⅰ. Eligibility
1. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens and meet the requirements stipulated in the JWH [2020] No.12 Document issued by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Applicants shall be physically and mentally healthy and willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and the regulations of Wuhan University.
2. Applicants shall be between 18 and 25 years of age as of Sep. 1, 2025. Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit a guarantee letter from their guardians in China when applying.
3. Language Ability
Applicants for Chinese-taught programs shall hold the new HSK4 certificate (with scores of 180+). Applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese or who have been taught in Chinese in high school can be exempted from an HSK certificate if approved by Wuhan University.
Applicants for English-taught programs shall hold a TOEFL 80+, TOEFL Essential 8+ or IELTS 6.0+ certificate. Applicants whose mother tongue is English or who have previous degrees taught through the medium of English can be exempted from TOEFL, TOEFL Essential and IELTS if approved by Wuhan University.
Applicants applying for Chinese Language major, whose Chinese language proficiency is at least 180 points in HSK4, and who have studied Chinese language for one year or more in universities or other educational institutions with excellent grades can be arranged into the second year of the Chinese language major class upon their own application and passing the assessment organized by the School of International Education. Those who have attained the Chinese language proficiency of 180 points or above in HSK5 and have studied the Chinese language for one year or more in universities or other educational institutions with excellent grades can be arranged into the third year of the Chinese language major class if they have passed the assessment organized by the School of International Education upon their own application.

4. Identity Verification of Ethnic Chinese
If one or both of the applicant’s parents are Chinese, or the applicant has emigrated from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and acquired foreign nationality, according to the No.12 Announcement of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (2020), they shall be naturalized for four years or more (before Apr. 30, 2025) and have more than two years of residence in foreign countries during this period (actual residence in a foreign country of more than nine months in a year can be calculated as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamps).
Applicants born in a foreign country are required to meet the above criteria and provide a personal birth certificate and the parents' nationality certificates.
Ⅱ.Application Procedures
1.Online Application
Create your account in the online application system at: https://admission.whu.edu.cn/.
Complete the application form and upload the required documents.
2.Application Documents Submission
l Copy of the passport biographical page(be valid at least till December 2025) and copy of the visa issued by a Chinese embassy (if available)
l High school graduation diploma or proof of impending graduation (in Chinese or English)
l High school transcripts (in Chinese or English)
l HSK report (Chinese-taught programs only)
l Financial certification/bank statement (US$5,000 or above)
l English language proficiency certificate, e.g. TOEFL/TOEFL
l Essential/IELTS/others (English-taught programs only)
l Candidates who have prior learning experiences in China should provide evidence of their academic performance from their previous institution(s).
l Physical examination report issued within six months (the original report must be submitted upon registration)
Note
l Applicants are required to submit scanned copies of all required documents during application. All uploaded documents must be in Chinese or English; otherwise, notarized translations in Chinese or English are required. The original documents and notarized translations must be submitted upon registration.
l An application fee of RMB800 / US$111 shall be paid within seven days of application through https://admission.whu.edu.cn/ for online payment (non-refundable).
3.Interview & Examination
Applicants who pass the application documentation review will proceed to the interview and entrance exam stage. The time and mode of the interview and exam will be advised via email. Outstanding applicants recognized by Wuhan University will be exempted from the interview.
Ⅲ.Application,Admission & Registration Period for Applicants
1.Application Period for Self-funded Applicants
The application period for spring semester 2025 runs from Oct. 20, 2024 to Dec. 30, 2024.
The application period for autumn semester 2025 runs from Dec. 1, 2024 to Jun.15, 2025.
The application period for spring semester 2026 runs from October 2025 to December 2025.
2.Admission Period for Self-funded Applicants
Based on an overall evaluation of the documentation and the interview of the applicants, Wuhan University will issue the admission results in batches. Please check the admission result on the website at https://admission.whu.edu.cn/.
3.Registration Period
The usual registration period for international students is from August to September. Please check the Admission Notice for the exact registration time.
When registering at Wuhan University, admitted students must bring their ordinary passport (diplomatic and service passports will not be accepted), Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201) and student visa. Original or notarized diplomas or transcripts of their previous studies (in English or Chinese) must also be provided for review during the official registration. Otherwise, the admission will be considered invalid.

Ⅳ.Visa Application
Admitted applicants must bring their passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/201), Physical Examination Record Form, as well as all physical examination reports, including the Blood Test Record, to the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate or other official agencies authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China to apply for a student visa (X1/X2 visa).
Notice: If admitted applicants hold visas other than a student visa (X1/X2 visa), they will not be registered at Wuhan University.
Under special circumstances, students who are already in China can study at Wuhan University with their current visa. Under special circumstances, students who are already in China can study at Wuhan University with their current visa.
Ⅴ.Accommodation
The School of International Education will arrange on-campus accommodation for new students who register within the specified period.
Ⅵ.Study Duration and Degree Award
The duration of undergraduate programs at Wuhan University is four to six years. Most of the programs are taught in Chinese and a few in English. For details, please check “Attachment I: Undergraduate Programs Available to International Applicants at Wuhan University (Chinese-taught)” and “Attachment II Undergraduate Programs Available to International Applicants at Wuhan University (English-taught)”. On completion of all required course work and the passing of thesis defense, students will be awarded with a bachelor’s degree and a graduation certificate.
