1.Main Contents of the Undergraduate Syllabus

(1) Major Code and Title

Major Code: 050102

Major Title: Chinese Language

(2) Education Objectives

Students in Chinese Language major are non-Chinese students from foreign countries. The objective is to develop the overall specialized talents in Chinese to meet the need of modern international society. After completing their studies, students will possess systematic professional knowledge in Chinese language, advanced ability to communicate in Chinese, to understand Chinese culture and to take a profession related to Chinese language. Students majoring in different directions can be engaged in professions as teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages and international trade related to China, and will have enough Chinese language proficiency and professional ability for further study. This major consists of two directions: TCSOL(teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages) and Business Chinese.

TCSOL: Cultivating special talents to master Chinese language knowledge, Chinese cultural knowledge, pedagogy and educational psychology; to be familiar with the teaching methods of TCSOL; to have the ability to teach Chinese abroad or work in related areas.

Business Chinese: Cultivating practical personnel who know the basic business terms and the knowledge of international trade; who know Chinese business culture and business etiquette; have strong professional quality and be able to use Chinese skillfully in their work.

(3) Major Compulsory Courses

TCSOL:Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Speaking,

Chinese Reading, Chinese Writing, Modern Chinese (Grammar),Chinese Literature, Chinese Culture and Chinese Teaching Method, etc.

Business Chinese: Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Speaking, Business Chinese, Business Chinese Listening and Speaking, Business Culture and Business Chinese Writing, etc.

(4) Schooling Length and Credit Requirement

Schooling Length: 4 years

Credit Requirement: 150 credits

(5) Degree Title

The students majoring in Chinese Language will be awarded Bachelor’s degree literature.

(6) Main Experimental and Practical Teaching Requirements

This major offer two directions, TCSOL (teaching Chinese to speakers of other

languages) and business Chinese. The students in TCSOL need to take part in teaching practice and write thesis before graduation. The students in Business Chinese need to take part in social practice (market research) and write a market report as graduation thesis.

(7) Graduation Requirement

The graduates majoring in Chinese Language must at least pass new HSK-Level 5 or BCT intermediate Level.
