Sino-American Cultural Exchange Scholarship(year 2017)

1. Introduction

This program is sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China. The program plans to finance a total of 10,000 American students, either for degree studies or just for non-degree credits.
The degree-study scholarship provides full funds for full-time American undergraduate, master’s or doctoral candidates admitted by the designated Chinese universities. The scholarship for non-degree credits is intended for those whose American universities will recognize the credits they obtained during a minimum of three-month study at the designated Chinese universities. The latter part of the program is to encourage the establishment of exchange programs, or expansion of existing ones, between the designated Chinese universities and their American counterparts.


2. Eligibility

(1). Applicants must be American citizens in good health;

(2). Education background and age limit:

Applicants for bachelor degree studies must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25.
Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.
Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40.


3. Application for the Degree-study Scholarship

(1) Academic programs
Most programs are taught in Chinese. More information about the Chinese or English medium academic programs is available on our website: http://admission.whu.edu.cn

Please consult the doctoral supervisor before applying English-taught doctoral programs.

Applicants applying for the program of their native language or the third country's native languages like English or French are not eligible for this scholarship program.

Applicants for Chinese-medium programs are required to take one year of Chinese language courses prior to the academic study if their Chinese is not qualified. Only by passing the required HSK test after the Chinese language course could they start their major studies.


(3) Degree-study Scholarship Details

a. Exemption from tuition fee and accommodation on campus;
b. Living allowance: RMB 2,500/month/person for bachelor’s degree students; RMB 3,000/month/person for master's degree students; RMB 3,500 /month /person for doctoral students;
c. Comprehensive medical insurance;
d. International travel expenses: self-afforded.

(5) Application Procedures

Applicants are eligible for scholarship assessment only after they are admitted to the bachelor’s, master's or doctoral program of Wuhan University. (The prospectus for bachelor’s, master's and doctoral program are available at http://admission.whu.edu.cn/) .

a. Register and submit your online application at the CSC Online Application System for International Students at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn. Wuhan University code is 10486. Download and print a hard copy of the completed “Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship”.

b. Register and submit your online application at Wuhan University Online Application System for International Students at http://admission.whu.edu.cn, submit online the completed “Application Form for International Scholars and Students of Wuhan University” and other application documents required as follows, download and print a hard copy of the completed application form.

c. Send 2 sets of the necessary documents as below to Wuhan University by DHL or EMS. The application documents should be bound according to the following order.

Application documents (all in duplicate)

a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(written in Chinese or English), the form should be signed.

b. Application Form for International Scholars and Students of Wuhan University(written in Chinese or English), the form should be signed.

c. Scanned copy of valid passport;

d. Notarized highest diploma(degree certificate) and transcripts(the original and copy of each one): to be issued directly by the educational administration office of the school/university, with an official stamp. Prospective diploma recipients must submit official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status, expected degree certificate and graduation date. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations. High school diploma is required for Bachelor’s degree program, Bachelor’s degree diploma is required for master programs and Master’s degree diploma is required for doctoral programs.

e. Study Plan, 800 words or above, written in Chinese or in English(only master's or doctoral candidates required);

f. Two Recommendation Letters from either professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English(only master's or doctoral candidates required);

g. “Physical Examination Form for Foreigners”, filled in Chinese or in English. Each applicant should take physical examination according to requirements in this form. (The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org). Physical Examination Form for Foreigners would be invalid in the following situations: some of the items required in the form are missing; there is no photo in the form; there is no seal stamped on the photo; the form is not signed by doctors and sealed by the hospital. In view that the period of validity for the physical examination is 6 months, it’s strongly advised that the applicants should take the physical examination according to the requirement in time.

h. HSK certificate if it is available.

i.  Acceptance Letter from the professor of Wuhan University(if available).

Please note:

a. All documents should be submitted in two hard copies by DHL or EMS (The diploma and transcripts should be original or notarized ones).

b. Each set of documents should be bound in above-mentioned order, the incomplete application documents or wrong university code information will not be accepted.

c. Whether accepted or not, the documents will not be returned.


(6) Submission of application documents:

Send by post to Admission Office, Wuhan University before 30 April the two forms and other required documents. (Postal address: Admissions Office 101, School of International Education, Wuhan University, Hubei Province, China 430072; Tel: +86 27 6875 3912)

Others:

a. Scholarship will not be reserved if the scholarship recipient cannot register before the registration deadline.

b. Scholarship students shall not change their host university, field of study, or duration of study unless they give up the grant.

c. Scholarship students must take an annual evaluation.


 (7) Selection and Notification

Applicants will be given priority consideration if they graduate from world-renowned universities, or are recommended by senior professors or experts. A panel of experts at Wuhan University will screen candidates for the scholarship and submit a list of nominees to university authorities for approval. Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants' application documents, academic performance, overall merits, research achievements and supervisors' comments. The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council for final approval.
The qualified Applicants will be informed of the evaluation result around the middle of May, and the final result of scholarship winners will be informed at  the end of June. The official admission document will be delivered from the beginning of July.

4. Application for Scholarship for Non-degree Credits

The scholarship for non-degree credits in Wuhan University is mainly open to candidates from its sister universities in the U.S. Office of International Affairs, Wuhan University is in charge of its operation.
