The Economics and Management School (EMS)

The Economics and Management School (EMS) is the largest school of Wuhan University, with 12807 students and 361 faculty and staffs. It dates back to 1893 when “Ziqiang (Self-Reliance) Institute” was founded with a division of business and it was, in practice, the earliest business education institution in China.

Degree programs offered by EMS meet the high education standards. Within its two broad subject disciplines of Economics and Management, the School has one national key first-level discipline and 7 national key secondary disciplines, all of which have obtained distinguished qualifications within either the national higher education system or Hubei province itself. Currently, the School is offering 22 doctoral programs, 26 academic master programs, 18 professional master degree programs (such as MBA, EMBA, MPAcc, MPM, etc), 18 undergraduate programs and 7 experimental-teaching undergraduate classes.

In 2012, Wuhan University was ranked 3rd in the subject of Theoretical Economics and 12th in Business Administration in a nationwide assessment by China’s Ministry of Education (MoE). In 2010, it became the 4th institution in China to gain international accreditation of AMBA, and it was re-accredited in 2013 for another 5 years. In April 2016, The Economics and Management School of Wuhan University is proud to be the first EQUIS-accredited business school in Central China, a dynamic area with a population of 300 million. This is a critical step for our School to become a leading business school in China with world-class standing
