Pre-admission Notice of Chinese Government Scholarship- Bilateral Program

 

These instructions only apply to applicants of the Chinese Government Scholarship- Bilateral Program, who are required to submit a pre-admission letter to the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country to complete their applications.

 1. Application time: around Dec. 1- March 30 next year .

 2. Application procedure

(1) Online application

Applicants shall first apply online at http://admission.whu.edu.cn/ and upload the application documents as per instructions.

(2) Sending email

Applicants should email  Application Form for International Scholars and Students of Wuhan University, which is generated automatically after successful online application and  Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship Applicant to admissions@whu.edu.cn, indicating Application for Pre-admission Letter in the subject line.

Notes:

Online application is mandatory. Applications with no online signing-up will not be considered.

The Admission Office of Wuhan University (WHU) will not process incomplete applications or applications for other scholarship programs.

 

3. Application documents required

Applicants shall submit the following application documents on the application system. There is no need to mail the hard-copy documents after successful online application.

(1) Degree programs

 Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship Applicant(if available), issued by the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country. The letter can be submitted through the section of Supplementary Material on the application system.

 Highest degree certificate and academic transcripts (notarized copy in English or Chinese).

Application for undergraduate programs: High school diploma and academic transcripts relating to high school study.

Application for master’s programs: Bachelor's degree certificate and academic transcripts relating to bachelor's study.

Application for doctoral programs: Master's and bachelor's degree certificates and academic transcripts relating to master's and bachelor's study.

Applicants who are currently studying at high school or university should provide a  pre-graduation certificate and transcripts. If admitted, a notarized copy of their formal degree certificate shall be submitted to the WHU Admission Office before the specified registration date; failure to do so will result in disqualification of enrollment.

 Study or research plan (no less than 200 words/characters for undergraduates; no less than 1000 words/characters for postgraduates) in Chinese or English.

Two letters of recommendation signed by professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English.

A photocopy of Chinese (HSK) or English Proficiency Certificate. Please refer to the fourth part of these instructions for detailed information about language requirements.

A photocopy of valid personal passport with a minimum of one year before its expiration.

 A photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (click to download http://admission.whu.edu.cn/en/?c=content&a=list&catid=81), completed in Chinese or English. Medical examination results are valid for only six months (The original is to be retained by the applicant).

 Please submit online the acceptance letter of professor if you have obtained it from Wuhan University, and other additional documents (e.g. certificate of work or internship, award, publications).

 Non-criminal record report in English or Chinese. An applicant shall submit a valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (or Police Clearance Certificate) issued by the local public security (such as the police station), usually issued within six months prior to the submission date of the application.

(2) Non-degree Programs

Applicants should choose their application category as General Scholar or Senior Scholar.

 Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship Applicant(if available), issued by the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country. The letter can be submitted through the section of Supplementary Material on the application system.

A study certificate and academic transcripts (notarized copy in English or Chinese).

 Study plan in Chinese or English (no less than 500 words/characters for scholars).

 A photocopy of HSK certificate (if available), or English Proficiency Certificate. Please refer to the fourth part of these instructions for detailed information about language requirements.

 A photocopy of valid personal passport with a minimum of one year before its expiration.

4. Academic Programs

(1) Programs in Chinese

Most programs are taught in Chinese at Wuhan University. For more information, please visit Academic Programs at http://admission.whu.edu.cn.

 Chinese proficiency requirements

have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 3 when applying for an undergraduate program, a general scholar program(excluding Chinese language majors) and a senior scholar program.  Applicants who have passed HSK Level 4 or above can apply for major study directly, and those who have passed the HSK Level 3 can apply to take Chinese language courses for one year first, then move on to the major study after meeting the requirement.

have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for master’s or doctoral programs; Applicants who have passed HSK Level 5 or above can apply for major study directly, and those who have passed the HSK Level 4 can apply to take Chinese language courses for one year first, then move on to the major study after meeting the requirement.

Those who have used Chinese as the language of instruction to obtain a degree in a Chinese university are not required to provide proof of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), but must provide a proof of the Chinese language of instruction.

 (2) Programs in English

WHU offers some programs in English. More information is available on the website  http://admission.whu.edu.cn.

 English proficiency requirements

provide a report of English Language Test (TOEFL 80+/IELTS 6.0+). Those who cannot offer the above-mentioned standard English test result can provide a proof of their previous studying at an institution where the teaching language is English, and will be required to take additional oral or written English test organized by Wuhan University. Native English-speaking applicants could be exempted from providing the above English proficiency certificate;

Applicants for English-taught master’s program of clinical medicine should have passed HSK(Level 4) or above as well, and those who have passed HSK (Level 3) can apply to take Chinese language training courses for one year, and then move on to their degree study after meeting the requirement.

 

5. Acceptance

Application documents will be forwarded to the relevant school for academic review. Admission decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ academic performance, language proficiency, overall merits, research output and their prospective advisor’s comments and their program preference.

The University will notify applicants of the admission outcome via email after receiving a complete set of documents. Successful applicants will receive a pre-admission letter by email.
